Our partnership with the Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN) supports our students to realise many opportunities and achieve their potential. ABCN is a purpose-led, not-for-profit organisation that brings businesses and schools together to address educational disadvantage.
Their vision is for all young Australians to reach their potential in the future world of work, regardless of socio-economic background. They connect volunteers from member companies with students from low socio-economic backgrounds to provide fun, workplace-based mentoring programs that develop students’ confidence, skills and aspirations vital for thriving in the workplace of the future.
As the world of work changes, businesses are telling us that the skills and mindsets to be successful are changing. ABCN works to help schools support students to develop these. The high school programs focus on these emerging skills and mindsets, particularly:
- Self-management: Understanding personal strengths, weaknesses and values; goal-setting; time-management; resilience
- Collaboration: Emotional intelligence; communication; collaboration; building relationships; empathy
- Thinking: Creativity; problem-solving; entrepreneurial mindset
- Mindsets: Learning mindset; growth mindset
- STEM: Technology skills; numeracy
