About the Program
The Academic Extension Program is designed to:

Year 7–9 Academic Extension Program
This program extends and enriches learning for students in lower secondary years.
Key Features:
- Placement by nomination, academic results, and panel review
- Enrichment activities and higher-order learning tasks
- Mentoring and personalised goal setting
- Semesterly reviews to support growth and continued participation
Selection Criteria:
- Teacher, HOLA or AP nomination
- Strong academic results (typically top 25% of the year group)
- Consistent classroom engagement and positive attitude
- Attendance above 90%
Year 10 Academic Extension Program
The Year 10 program prepares students for university pathway options available at Kiara College, including:
- ATAR courses
- ECU UniPrep bridging program
- Certificate IV in Preparation for Nursing and Health Studies
Focus Areas:
- Building academic habits, resilience, and independence
- Strong performance in core subjects (Maths, English, Science, HASS)
- Developing effective study routines and time management
- Preparing for senior school workload and tertiary transition
Selection Criteria:
- Teacher/HOLA nomination and panel review
- Demonstrated academic achievement or aspiration for further study
- Strong classroom engagement and motivation
- Attendance above 90%

Review Process
- Student progress is reviewed mid-semester and end-of-semester.
- If a student is not meeting expectations:
- A meeting is held with the student, family, and staff.
- SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) are set.
- Progress is monitored with support and regular check-ins.
- If limited progress is made after reasonable support, a transition to the mainstream class may occur, with continued academic and wellbeing support.
Partnership with Parents & Carers
Parents and carers play a vital role in supporting student success by:
- Encouraging regular attendance and punctuality
- Supporting homework and study routines
- Communicating with the school when challenges arise
- Reinforcing the importance of responsibility and commitment
- Celebrating effort and achievements
How to Get Involved
- Families of nominated students will receive a Program Information Letter and a Student Expectations Agreement.
- Both student and parent/carer sign the agreement, committing to uphold the expectations of the program.
- Teachers and coordinators are always available to discuss questions and provide guidance.
